The Late Silver Discoveries.

One of the HERALD's many friends in San Fernando sends us the following particulars concerning the late discoveries of silver quartz in that section, with the promise of "something still more startling" at an early day:

San Fernando, Jan. 4th

Editor Herald: Our prospecting for cinnabar in this locality has resulted in the discovery of an exceedingly rich deposit of silver-bearing rock within twenty-five miles of San Fernando. The ledge runs northeast by southwest, and shows croppings in that direction some 6,000 feet. while it measures 1,200 feet in width.' From tests made to-day. by smelting in an ordinary crucible, quite a large quantity of pure silver was obtained. Some persons here of experience believe the ore will assay $500 per ton; others have placed it at $1,000. Nothing accurate can be given until an assay of the ore is made. You may expect to hear of something startling then.
