DISTRESSING ACCIDENT.

Alexander E. Spotswood, eldest son of Dandridge Spotswood, Esq. of this place, aged 14 years, while riding out with a party of young friends, on the evening of the 23rd inst. a few miles below town, on the City Point Road, by the bursting asunder of his saddle girth, was thrown to the ground and so dreadfully injured by the horse of one of his companions passing over him at full gallop, as to cause his death in an hour after his mangled body was brought into the presence of his deeply afflicted father and mother. The deceased was a youth of most sprightly and intelligent mind; amiable disposition and manners, and exhibited in every way, the most flattering promises of future usefulness and distinction in society. But the destroyer had marked him for his own—and speeding his shaft in an unexpected moment, added another to his long list of untimely victims; and to their cause for deep grief and affliction the loss of a second son, which has been snatched in a premature manner from the arms of the same fond parents within the last few years.
