The Humboldt War. The telegraph states to Mr. Tracy, operator at this place, that Mr. I. G. Messick was elected to the Captaincy of the Company of volunteers organized at Big Bar, Trinity county, on Thursday last. The company has been organized for the purpose of aiding in quelling the Indian disturbances that have been rife between Weaverville and Humboldt Bay, for some weeks past. The Captain elect is experienced in Indian warfare, and under his leadership the Company will hardly fail to do good service. It has been frequently demonstrated, especially on the Pacific coast, that volunteers are far superior to an equal force of the regular Army in warring upon Indian tribes.—Shasta Republican, Saturday
