EIGHT DEAD IN APARTMENT HOUSE FIRE, WINNIPEG

SOME OF THE OCCUPANTS JUMPED FROM THIRD AND FOURTH FLOORS

WINNIPEG, Sept. 3, (AP)-Mrs. Madge Edwards, 42, her daughter Marjorie, 14, and son Gordon, 9; Alfred Applebee, 45, daughter Irene, 11; Ralph Weighton, 56, Mrs. H. L. Butler and Mrs. Sarah Gaunt, 68; lost their lives and several were seriously injured in an apartment house fire.

Property damage is estimated at $50,000. The flames are thought to have started in the basement shooting up into the hallways, up the stairways and throughout the structure.

The roof collapsed and some of the occupants were compelled to leap from the third and fourth floors to fire nets or to the pavements.
