Yesterday a Letter from the Select Men of the Town of Boston came to the Town Council of this Town, enclosing the Votes of the Town Meeting of Boston, held on the 28th of October last, for encouraging the Use and Consumption of all Articles manufactured in the American Colonies, with the Form of a Subscription (agreed upon in said Meeting, and now filling up very fast in that Town, and other Parts of the Colony of the Massachusetts Bay) not to purchase certain enumerated Articles imported from abroad, and recommending to this Town such similar Measures, as may be judged will tend to the Emolument of this Town and Colony. Upon this Occasion, it is hoped and expected that the Town will be called together, to deliberate upon the important Object of this Application.—We make no Doubt, but the laudable Example from Boston will be followed here, as Poverty and Ruin must evidently threaten the whole Country, as a Consequence of the immense Imports from abroad of Superfluities, and such Articles as may be manufactured here.
Nov. 21. Upon the Recommendation of the Town Council, and others; in Consequence of a Letter from the Select Men of Boston to that Board, the Town Clerk's Warrant is issued for calling a Town Meeting on Wednesday next, at 1 o'Clock in the Afternoon, for entering into some effectual Measures for promoting Industry, Oeconomy and Manufactures: The Town, it is thought, will generally attend, and exert themselves for bringing about the grand Purposes of their Meeting, as the Consequences of the vast Imports of Superfluities, and such Goods as may be fabricated here, with the Effects of certain new Regulations, begin to be sensibly felt.
