A GOOD PLANK.

As interesting reading we quote the following plank from the platform of R. R. Adams, a candidate for the Legislature from Saline County:

"Extravagance in public expenditures has gone wild, and a desire for revenue has gone off at a tangent. There must be a change. Besides county and district taxes, the federal and state taxes now amount to $68 per capita. That means that a man with five in family must pay annually $340 - on an average. If he has ten in the family he must pay $680. Poor people, farmers, can not pay it and survive. If the rich hardly get by, how can the poor escape? The creation of new offices has gone beyond all reason. There are more than 60 commissions, bureaus and boards, more than 200 employed at the State Capitol. They have been increased by the hundreds in the last decade. Ten years ago the people of Arkansas paid $9,000,000 in taxes. In 1922 they had increased more than a million a year. It seems to me, my friends, that such extravagance has gone beyond the limits. The people have a right to say it shall be stopped. These offices are sinecures, and ought to be abolished. The people elect their necessary officers, and they shift the responsibility upon commissions and boards. All officers should be elected by the people and should be directly responsible to them."
