THE UP-COUNTRY TRAFFIC
It is Secured to Ketchum Beyond Any Peradventure.

George McPheters, the well-known freighter, was in town last Saturday, looking into the outlook for teams. He said that all his stock was already engaged, with work ahead for the season, and that an immense quantity of freight would go from Ketchum this year to the upper country. The movement to send a part or all of the freight from Blackfoot has failed. As soon as the tariff heretofore published in the Times was decided upon I. I. Lewis left for railroad headquarters and succeeded so thoroughly in convincing the officials there of the superiority of the Ketchum route over that from Blackfoot, that he secured the same, or practically the same rates on freight via Blackfoot as via Ketchum. As the route by Ketchum is from 5 to 10 days shorter this is an enormous advantage, and one which effectually shuts Blackfoot out of the field for the upper country traffic. The mining districts of Custer and Lemhi counties tributary to Wood River are expected to require an enormous tonnage of freight this year, and if it all comes this way it will be greatly to Ketchum's benefit, as well as to that of Hailey.
