SPAIN.

Cadiz, Oct. 2. By a mail express vessel, which anchored in our bay the day before yesterday, and which sailed from Montevideo the 7th of July, we have received the most pleasing intelligence from Buenos Ayres. By the dispatches which the Viceroy had received from the interior parts of the country, he was informed the revolt in Peru was suppressed, the leader of the insurgents having been taken. This chief named Tupac Amaru, has made use of means similar to those which were practised by the noted Pugachev in Russia, for seducing a weak and credulous people, and for exciting them to rise against the government. He called himself a descendant of the Incas: his uncle and himself bore the same marks of sovereignty as were made use of by those ancient children of the sun. The army which he found means to assemble was more considerable in number than formidable by its valour, with which, however, he laid waste several provinces, and committed such horrid enormities as fully belied his pretended celestial origin. In order to put a stop to his ravages, it became necessary to set a price on his head, and to march from Lima, Cusco, and other places of Peru, a body of troops and militia, under the orders of Don Joseph del Valle, field-marshal. On the 9th of March all the troops being assembled to the number of 17,000 men, Don del Valle marched towards the revolters, who then occupied a pretty steep hill, near a village, which Tupac called his capital. On the approach of the Spaniards, he abandoned his post, and drew up his army in the plain, in order of battle: but it was routed by the first onset of the regular troops. The feeble Indians saved themselves by flight; and a great number of others perished in attempting to swim across a deep and rapid river. Tupac was not so happy: he passed it on his horse; and he had scarce reached the opposite side, but he was seized by a Cacique of his own faction, and delivered up to the Spaniards. If the rout of his army had not been complete, the capture of the chief would have finished it. The village, the principal seat of the revolters, was seized: wherein were found six pieces of cannon, besides those which Tupac had left on the field of battle; and, which is extraordinary, they were of a larger bore than those of the Spanish army. It is not easy to conceive in what manner they had been able to transport artillery to the distance of 400 leagues inland, without the knowledge of Government. There were found in the same place a great quantity of arms and ammunition. Tupac's wife, his children, and uncle, fell into the hands of the conquerors, as well as six chests of silver plate, and two boxes filled with papers, which contain the correspondence of the rebel, and which will give every information that can be desired, concerning the promoters and secret agents of this rebellion. Don Joseph del Valle, on his entering Tupac's capital, ordered eighteen of the revolters to be hanged. This chief, his family, and his principal officers, have been sent to Cusco. The battle, or rather the rout of the Indians (for the Spaniards lost but 3 men in the action) happened on the 6th of April. The foregoing is a summary of the circumstances of the event, as contained in several letters received here from Buenos Ayres. It is expected that the Court will publish a more substantial detail of this agreeable news.
