A SNEAK THIEF'S WORK.

Some time Thursday night a sneak thief stole $885 from H. Braun & Co.'s liquor store on Main street, near the square. During the day the firm had cashed $200 worth of checks, nearly all given by Brown & Co. for cotton purchases. These and the cash, $125, were put in a cash box and hidden behind some shelf goods. During the night the bartender slept, and during his sleep the robbery occurred. The loss was not discovered until yesterday morning.

Payment of the checks has been stopped. The clerk could only recall two of the names of the payees yesterday, one check for $105 to the order of J. C. Muniz and one to H. Braun & Co. drawn by J. W. Burgess for $50. There are suspicions but no clue yet.
