The Sunday School Convention in Charleston resulted in a success. Trinity Church was happily arranged for the occasion and the sessions fully and ably attended by representatives from all parts of the State, who were instant and earnest in all that they did. Among the delegates were several ladies. Dr. Hicks was chosen president and Dr. O. B. Mayer, one of the vice-presidents. Every one went prepared to throw their quota into the exchequer of good words and work for the Sabbath School. Presents and letters and greetings came and went from far and near, and seeds are sown that will yield rich fruit, and we are persuaded that the cause will receive a newer impulsion. Very much germane to the great interest was discussed in brief, terse, crisp, sparkling little five-minute talks. Among the many questions touched were—'the best method of conducting the exercises of the Sunday School;' 'the qualifications requisite for a superintendent,' (by Rev. T. S. Boinest, an interesting paper which we shall publish) 'Qualifications requisite for a teacher;' 'Teachers' meetings and how to conduct them;' 'advantage of uniform lessons;' 'blackboard and object teaching;' 'infant classes and how to conduct them;' 'how children should be classified,' etc. Many interesting questions were propounded and pithily answered. Some one wanted to know what to do with incorrigible scholars—the answer was to the effect that they should be constrained by love, patience, prayer, etc. The President said some good things about the 'breath of ice' that sometimes obtrudes as a gulf between pastor and superintendent. It should be melted by the warm rays of a mutually congenial and intimate relationship in the work which requires a oneness in inspiration and aims.
