Premiere of 'The River' Set at Krim

The Michigan Premiere of Jean Renoir's "The River" will be Nov. 14th at the Krim Theatre, Woodward at 6 Mile, with a gala reserved seat opening that expected to bring out the city's social, theatrical and civic elite.

First Technicolor film to be filmed entirely in India, "The River" uses the lush countryside as a backdrop as it follows three adolescent girls' first adventure into love. Jean Renoir directed and collaborated on the screenplay with Rumer Godden, the author whose novel is the basis for the film. It is a Theatre Guild production.

It is the third motion picture to be selected for sponsorship by the Theatre Guild. "Hamlet" and Henry V were the others.

Produced by Kenneth McEldowney with an international cast of American, English and Indian actors, "The River" will be shown on a reserved seat twice daily schedule with extra matinees on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays at 5:30 p.m. and a late show Saturday evenings at 11 p.m. Daily matinees start at 2:30 p.m., and evening shows at 8:30 p.m.

Mail orders are now being accepted at the box office of the Krim Theatre for all performances four weeks in advance. Prices are scaled at $1.20, $1.80 and $2.40 for evenings, including the 11 p.m. late show Saturdays, and $1.20, $1.50 and $1.80 for matinees, tax included.
