On Thursday last about Ten o'Clock, a Party of about 200 of the Citizens, crossed to Long-Island in Pursuit of Zachariah Hood, STAMP-MASTER of Maryland, who a few Weeks ago was too warmly pursued in his own Country to stay for their Resentment, and came hither for Protection; but had little Rest here, therefore went to Flushing; and our Party getting Scent, went to his Lodgings, where they were joined by others from the City, who went up by Water, and a Committee entering the House, he appear'd, when being interrogated about his Name and Commission, he generously confessed.--Thus obtaining the Prize, they politely required his Resignation, but some stumbling Blocks on his Part coming in the Way, it soon came to a downright Insist; here he yielded, and after signing a proper Instrument for the Purpose, the Company at Ten at Night convey'd him in a Chair to Jamaica, (4 Miles Distant) where he swore before a Magistrate to abide by it.
On this he received three hearty Cheers, and had their Assurance of his being civilly treated in the City for the future; after which, at Midnight, he was conducted back to his Lodgings:--But before parting, Mr. Hood signified, that had he been used with half the Civility in Maryland as by them, he would not have come so far to reign so disagreeable an Office to the Publick;---and thank'd them kindly.
