Many north Montana oil operators are watching with keen interest the discovery of a large flow of gas in the Devonian formation on the Alberta side of the border at Steveville. It was drilled by Standard, of British Columbia in LSD 13, Sec. 22-20-12W4. The formations at this point are identical with those in northern Montana, observers say. There was a showing of oil in the Madison lime, the Turner Valley horizon, and drilling continued more than 1,000 feet, with no porosity, before the big flow, rated at 40,000,000 cubic feet per day, was encountered. The Devonian has never been developed in north Montana oil fields, because of the difficulty of drilling through 600 to 800 feet of hard Mississippian lime,
