Hits Truman Attack

NEW YORK--Collier's Magazine is no friend of the Fair Deal, but the vicious attacks on President Truman in the present campaign have been too much.

Assailing "a few isolationist newspapers" for charging that the President is "deliberately and eagerly fomenting conflict in order to keep himself and his party in power," Collier's, in a recent editorial says "This distortion of the President's character and purposes is not only vicious but palpably absurd. It is also stupid. For those same newspapers are among the country's most shrill and excited opponents of Communism.

Yet they have picked up the Red cry of 'warmonger' against Mr. Truman."

Collier's assailed this "unreasoning hatred" and added "this country has no time to listen to the hatemongers who, in effect, have accused the President of the United States of murder."
