Labor Invited To
Sunrise Pageant
(Special to Miami Labor Citizen)
Organized labor is cordially invited to attend the 1954 Easter sunrise pageant in the Orange Bowl, it was announced by Rev. Carl A. Moberg, president of the Greater Miami Ministerial Association.
He also pointed out the site of 20 New Year's Day grid classics will be transformed into an impressive "Shrine for a Day" Easter Sunday afternoon. Although more than 40,000 worshipers are expected to see the South's most spectacular and best attended Easter spectacle, three large scenes depicting "The Last Supper," "Resurrection" and "Ascension" will be left open Sunday afternoon so they may be seen by additional thousands who will have attended church Easter services earlier in the day.
South Florida palm trees, flowers and other greenery will be an important part of the settings. An afternoon organ concert of Easter music is planned to run until dusk.
As introduced last Easter, the 1954 pageant will emphasize color, drama and sacred music with no sermon. A 400-voice choir will provide the musical background for the Biblical extravaganza.
Sponsored 28 years by the ministerial association, the 1954 version is expected to attract far greater attendance than last year's record crowd which was in excess of 25,000. For the first time, both north and south stands of the bowl will be used for seating. Sets will be in the west end of the stadium instead of in the midfield as in 1953.
Non-denominational, the community-wide religious event was held on the seashore at Miami Beach until six years ago, when annually increased crowds made it necessary to shift the site to the Orange Bowl.
Dr. Frank E. Harlow is chairman of the association's Easter observance committee for the fifth straight year.
