"If we are to credit the last accounts from Petersburg, it appears that the empire is threatened with incursions from the wandering Tartars, who never were reconciled to the subduing Little Tartary, whose inhabitants they look upon as brethren. The Usbeck Tartars have affected an alliance with the Turcomani, who live near Mounts Taurus and Caucasus. They consulted together which parts they should invade, and it is said that they are come to a resolution of beginning their hostilities by an irruption into the fertile country watered by the river Volga, after having laid waste that of Georgia, whose princes they hold in the utmost abhorrence and contempt, for having put themselves under the protection of the Russians.
