Thirty-five Clark upperclassmen selected as Freshman Guides to help orientate members of the Class of 1960, will meet with Personnel Deans September 9 and 10 to review the activities planned for the College's Freshman Orientation Week which begins Tuesday, September 11.
These meetings are a follow-up of the pre-planning session of the group which took place during May, and the group will hear Deans Phoebe Callier and Charlton Hamilton give final instructions on the role of the guides and the College's responsibility to freshmen.
TO MEET STUDENTS As in previous years, guides will be stationed at railroad and bus depots and at the airport to greet new students who will arrive on September 10. The guides, who will serve primarily as leaders for the traditional "huddle groups", consisting of ten freshmen and three upper classmen leaders, will also participate in each morning convocation during the week and serve as directors of residence corridor meetings.
The first in the series of convocations for freshmen will be held Tuesday morning in Davage Auditorium. Placement tests will follow and extend through Wednesday, and freshmen huddle groups will meet Tuesday afternoon. The activities for that day will close with the Annual Reception for Parents, Freshmen, and Faculty.
PHYSICAL EXAMS Physical examinations will be administered by College Physician Dr. William M. Harper in the College's Health Center on Thursday morning and a skit performed by freshman guides in Davage Auditorium at 7:30 o'clock will assist in giving the new students the "do's" and "don'ts" of life on a college campus.
Following the Friday morning convocation, a "how to" session will acquaint new students with use of College facilities. This will be followed by freshman talent try-outs and auditions for the College Band and Philharmonic Society, and the day's activities will include a tour of the University Center, the President's Party, and the intercollegiate Hour.
Freshman registration will begin at 8 o'clock on Saturday, September 15, and new students will meet faculty members at a picnic scheduled for Saturday afternoon.
On Sunday morning the freshmen and their guides will attend a breakfast-meditation hour and later they will go to services at city churches. During the evening they will be "At Home" to freshmen of other colleges. At 7:30 o'clock on Sunday evening they will be officially inducted into the College family at the traditional Candle Light Service on the campus grounds and in Davage Auditorium.
Monday's program will include the daily convocation and assignment of chapel seats and will close with the talent hour in Davage Auditorium. On Tuesday evening the new students will become acquainted with upperclassmen at a social hour in the College's Recreation Hall. Classes begin September 19.
