Scenes from high life at Washington.--A correspondent at Washington informs us, that a mock heroick poem has been recently written in that city, descriptive of the gallant exploits of a distinguished legislator, whose knight errantry throws all the achievements of Don Quixote into the shade. The groundwork of the poem grew out of an intrigue which one of the copper colored children of nature carried on with a charmer of the legislator. To revenge this outrage on his right which accrued to him as an official prerogative, he most ungallantly appealed to the virtues of a cowhide. This his inamorata could not tamely brook, but employed two sturdy labourers to inflict on the legislator a severe castigation. This we are informed, is a story from real life.
