James Allinder, electrician's mate, fireman, USN, visited over the weekend with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Allinder, Rose Lane, Avondale. James is serving aboard the USS Lexington operating out of San Diego.
Mrs. W. F. (Hazel) Williams, 206 E. Hill Dr., is recovering from surgery received last week at the Good Samaritan Hospital.
A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Jesus Trinidad in San Pedro, Calif., on Monday, Aug. 14. This is the first grandchild for the Z. Luques of Avondale.
Mrs. Pauline Sumers is visiting her brother, Glen Herzog. Mrs. Sumers is living near Yuma and reports that her son, A/3 Herb Sumers, is stationed in Japan. Jim Sumers, another son, stationed in Newfoundland, was made Airman 2nd class recently.
The Don Waddell family returned Friday from a month's vacation trip which took them to Gurnee, Ill., where they visited Mrs. Waddell's father, Alex Brown, and her sisters and brothers in Wisconsin Rapids, Wis. They also visited Don's father and brother in Detroit.
Mr. and Mrs. F. E. Kennedy and children, Debra and Kenneth, returned Sunday from a vacation at Greer.
Pam Coble returned home from the hospital this week. She is the 8-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Coble.
Mrs. Ellen Burton left for Pueblo, Colorado, last Thursday for a short visit with relatives, and to bring back her son Johnny who has been there for a few weeks.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Gaefcke and daughter Pam have been visiting in the home of their daughter and son-in-law. Mr. and Mrs. Marlin LeSueur of Eagar, Arizona. They returned over the weekend, but Pam remained until just before the starting of school in September.
It was a pleasure to see Mrs. Louella Rhodes up and around for the first time since her recent hospitalization. She was at the local shopping center. However, she is taking things easy for a while.
Henry Brooks, distributor for the Standard Oil Co. of California, has a useful little token for those returning to school - a pencil, the lead end of which is decorated with the Stars and Stripes, the center wishing "a happy and healthy school year," and at the eraser end a replica of the Holy Bible and an injunction, "Go to church every Sunday." And Mr. Brooks practices what he preaches.
The Ed Hazeltons have had as their guest the past 10 days Mr. Hazelton's brother, Alton Davies, of Kansas City, Kansas. They enjoyed a trip to Prescott and to Nogales during Mr. Davies stay. Mr. Davies is the English and Journalism Department Head at Central Junior High School in Kansas City, Kansas.
Mr. and Mrs. Ed Hazelton entertained with a barbecue dinner on August 24 for newlyweds Mr. and Mrs. Jim Werner of Goodyear.
It was almost old home week at the Hiway House at Sun City last Friday night. Quite by accident the following residents of Avondale, Goodyear and Litchfield Park dined out: Mr. and Mrs. Doc Rhodes. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Anderson, Mrs. Evelyn Meyers and guests, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Busey and Pam, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Davenport and Cindy and Carol. Mr. and Mrs. Elwood Phillips, Mr. and Mrs. Laddie Coor, and Mr. and Mrs. Ed Hazelton and P. K., and Alton Davies.

The flowers upon the altar last Sunday were placed there in honor of two events in the lives of Mr. and Mrs. Marius Terkelsen of Buckeye. The events were the 35th wedding anniversary of the couple and also Mr. Terkelsen's birthday. Both events are celebrated within a week of one another.
Next Sunday, being the last Sunday of the month, there will be Holy Communion at the morning service.
The men of the church will have the opportunity to get away from it all" September 16 and 17 when the Brotherhood of the Intermountain Conference will conduct a retreat at Camp-O-Wood in Peppersauce Canyon. Applications and more information can be obtained at the church office.
