Full Text

The dreams of my youth may be faded away,
And Time, with his cold touch, my bosom have chill'd,
The flame that now burns in my heart may decay
But the notes of thy lyre, tho' nameless it be,
still'd:-
When its soul-soothing melody steals on my ear,
Will recall the sweet moments I've spent, Love, with thee,
In scenes so enchanting, so bewitchingly dear.
And still, when I gaze on its delicate frame,
Or tune its wild chords to the numbers of song.
With a sorrowing tear I'll repeat thy lov'd name,
And mourn o'er the hopes that are wither'd and gone.
Oh! bright be thy days!-may the innocent smile
From thy brow, by the dark frown of fate ne'er be driv'n!
May it still be the sign of a heart void of guile.
And light thee along on thy pathway to heav'n!
