Turner High Coed Wins Award For Biological Research Project
"SECOND AWARD WINNER"
A 15-year-old Turner High coed, who confesses that she dislikes Biology, has come up as the second prize winner in research competition by the Scientific Research Society of America for Sophomore and Junior high school students.
Dorothea Brown was the only Negro student among the top three winners in the city-wide contest, with entries from all of Atlanta's 16 or more high schools.
She was awarded a $30 cash prize and a handsome certificate for her endeavors.
Miss Brown, who aspires to become a foreign language teacher, captured second place for her research work on "Milk Bacteriology" which included a report of more than 500 words that required approximately 30 days for preparation.
The SCRSA contest is designed to encourage investigation in pure and applied science, and is a Federal sanctioned project of the Research Division of the Public Health Department. Each contestant selects his or her experiment.
