One good thing follows swift upon the heels of another. Week before last announcement was made that Henderson is to have a new and modern hotel. Now it is another.
J. P. Massenburg has bought the livery stable property of Whit Swain on William street, and will erect thereon a hotel building of his own. The structure will be of wood two stories high and will contain 12 sleeping rooms, half of them with private baths, besides office, lobby, dining room, kitchen, &c. The building will be steam heated, with running water and electric lights. The new hotel will be run in connection with the Annex, adjoining property recently built by Mr. D. Y. Cooper, and now occupied by Mr. Massenburg. This house has 10 rooms which will give a combined capacity of 22 bed rooms all together.
The lot bought from Mr. Swain is 50 feet front but Mr. Massenburg purchased from Mr. Cooper 10 feet between them giving him a frontage of 60 feet. The building will be 48 feet wide on William street and a depth in proportion to the width and will be a handsome structure conveniently arranged and suitable for the purposes designed.
Work will begin the first of November, all the material having been engaged.
Mr. Massenburg is an experienced hotel man and is well and widely known to the traveling public. There is not a more popular man in the business and his hosts of friends among "knights of the grip" and others will be glad to see him better fixed in the hotel line—with a new and modern building of his own equipped and furnished in up-to-date style.
And Mrs. Massenburg! Well, as a housekeeper and provider for the comforts of her guests, "Miss Carrie" has few equals and no superior. Everybody knows Mr. and Mrs. Massenburg and everybody likes them, and in their new home the Massenburg Hotel will be more popular than ever.
