ordered back to the people of North Carolina.
A motion of adjournment was made and lost.
Mr. Patton of Virginia, submitted the following resolution ; which was agreed to :
Resolved, That the election held in North Carolina last August, for a Representative for the 12th Congressional District of that State in the House of Representatives of the United States, be set aside ; that the seat of the Representative is hereby declared vacant ; and that the Speaker of this House be requested to inform the Governor of the State of North Carolina of the fact.
Thereupon, at half-past six o'clock, on motion of Mr. Hardin, the House adjourned.
