Full Text
Suppose the United States frigates Constitution and President, with captains Preble and Rodgers on board, were to enter the harbor of Portsmouth, or abreast of Sheerness in the Thames, and should there enter and impress a number of mariners and passengers from on board a ship, and carry them on board their respective frigates—what would our government say to the officers for this breach of the jurisdiction and territory of an independent nation?
Suppose the two French frigates were to do as the British frigate Cambrian has done! What would our high toned anglo-federalists say of the outrage?
We hear much fuss about the violation of the territory of the elector of Baden, and the seizure of the duke d'Enghien—but our loyal presses are perfectly complaisant under British outrage.
