We are not informed whether this body contemplates a continuation of the session over the week, or whether they will bring their legislative labors to a close this day.
We gave our readers some account of the resolutions reported in the House, by the Honorable Robert B. Cranston, late Member of Congress, in answer to the resolutions and communication from the New Hampshire legislature, in relation to the conviction and imprisonment of Gov. Dorr. The resolutions thus reported by the honorable gentleman, disgraceful as they were to this State, and insulting to New Hampshire, were adopted and sent to the Senate for the concurrence of that body. Here they were not suffered to pass without opposition, Messrs. Ballou and Eaton, as defenders of the dignity and character of the State, warmly protesting, in able speeches, against the passage of the resolutions, while Messrs. Randolph and Greene advocated their passage. By these Whig members, the New Hampshire legislature was charged with ignorance, impertinence and falsehood, but these aspersions on the character of the good Democratic Granite State were very thoroughly wiped off by Messrs. Ballou and Eaton, and that State and its legislature were ably vindicated by these Democratic champions of truth. The resolutions however, exceptionable as they were, passed by a party vote, and will shortly be transmitted to the legislature of New Hampshire to be made the sport of that body, and to show them of what manner of stuff Algerine legislators are made. It is humiliating to the Democracy of Rhode Island, to be involved and implicated in this act of folly and ignominy, by reason of being residents in the same State, but we may comfort ourselves with the bright hopes of the spring campaign, which is to free us from Whig domination, and place the Democracy in a position to redeem the character of the land of Roger Williams.
