RICKARD WIRES GANS FIGHT IS CERTAINTY
CONFIDENT OF RAILROAD RATES-NELSON AND BRITT ARE ENJOYING STAY IN THE CAMP-FIGHT.
FIGHT'S HEADQUARTERS WILL BE DIVIDED BETWEEN ELY AND ELY CITY-THINGS MOVING ALONG IN VERY SATISFACTORY MANNER.

It now looks as if there is little possibility for any falling down on the part of the management of the Nelson-Gans battle here on Labor Day, unless the Nevada Northern is obdurate in the matter of rates from Salt Lake and Ogden. While a deposit of $10,000 has not yet been made by Tex Rickard, he stands ready to put up a certified check for the amount in the First National bank whenever the rate of $5 or something close around that figure is guaranteed him. Tomorrow morning it is probable that Rickard, Willis Britt and Vice President Cannon of the Northern will leave for Salt Lake, accompanying the Battler that far on his trip to Chicago. They will during their stay in the Lake try to effect arrangements with the Oregon Short Line, Southern Pacific and Nevada Northern for a low rate for the round trip.

The "if" which is thus brought to light is not bothering Rickard to any great extent. He has telegraphed Joe Gans and his manager, Selig, that the fight is a sure go. This will probably clinch all the loose ends except the rate, which Tex believes will be adjusted to the satisfaction of all parties.

Yesterday was a quiet day for the Battler and his manager. The Dane passed the greater part of his time strolling around Ely acquainting himself with the people and things of interest in the district. A part of the day he spent playing pool with friends. Britt, while apparently dormant, was busy as usual, looking after the interests of the great little fighter. The first part of the afternoon he passed with Tex Rickard, with whom he held frequent conferences as vexatious points of arrangement came up for discussion between them. He expressed himself last evening as perfectly satisfied that the thing is a go and talked of his plans when next he came to Ely.

Last evening Nelson, Britt, Tex Rickard and several others composed a party which visited the skating rink dance. Here Nelson was again the center of attraction, it being easy to be seen that the feminine portion of Ely's residents are as anxious to make the acquaintance of the Battler as the men. The dance was one of the most largely attended held in the district for some time.

Today's plan of life for the Dane and his manager includes a strenuous stunt at baseball, when they will act as officials, the Battler as Umpire
