DRAGON OF THE AGES.
It Issues a Proclamation to the People of Topeka.
To the Public: Since the proper adjustment of my ears, I have heard of misapprehensions of my personal being and I beg to state that I am not the ferocious, angular, vindictive fire-spitting dragon of past ages—that my celestial education has changed me wholly from my terrestrial, barbarous nature.
Through the companionship of the valorous Don Quixote—that most learned, courteous, equitable and polished of chivalric knights—and the influence of the peerless Dulcinea del Toboso; and the homely wisdom and good nature of Sancho even my features have changed. No more have I the sharp angles of the dragon of old; but my lines are rounded out in Hogarth's curves of beauty. Even Dulcinea is pleased to call me beautiful, even unto loveliness.
Distinctly I am not the kind of dragon that was overcome by Saint George. No; I am rather a good natured, genial dragon—can appreciate jokes, know the humor of my coming again upon earth.
I am permitted to 'roll high' with you; to come and to show that in the greatness of our vast universe, culture and improvement do not end on earth. With mirth and jollity I am thine.
