The County Post.

Lines written to a Lady, on receiving from her a bouquet of flowers-composed of the "Old Bachelor," the Pink, the "Soldier in green," &c.

Ah! cap'st thou cruelly bestow
On me that pledge of misery,
That emblem of man's greatest woe,
"Alone on life's dull scene to be."

To live alone when thou art near,
Would but increase the dreadful thought;
And be perhaps, as I am here,
By thee, by all the world forgot.

Oh no; the ruby pink that decks
Thy hand, were dearer to my heart;
Whose every colour but reflects
The graces which thy charms impart.

The bonny soldier, clad in green!
I'll be that bonny knight to thee;
And thou shalt be the fairy queen
Of all thy soldier's chivalry.-Julian.
