SUMTER, SC. - Eleven CORE members were arrested for protesting lunch counter discrimination in Sumter. Five were arrested while sitting-in at the S. H. Kress lunch counter. Six others were arrested while picketing that store and the Cut Rate Drug Store.

All eleven have been charged with "breach of peace" and are free on $100 bail. Trial has been set for Oct. 27 according to Ernest Finney, counsel for the group.

Morris College CORE members had sat-in at the Kress store on Monday and again on Tuesday and Wednesday. In all cases they were quiet and orderly but on Wednesday Police Chief McIntosh ordered them arrested.

Three took seats at 3:00 p.m. and were arrested. A few minutes later two more CORE members took seats at the counter. They too were arrested.

The other six were arrested while picketing the two stores with signs that read "There's No Color Line in Heaven."
