The Dayton Democrat tells the following of two alleged Springfield thieves: Yesterday two colored men entered the shoe store of William Kehm, on East Fifth street in the Reibold block. While one of them engaged the attention of the proprietor the other extracted a pair of No. 8 shoes from a box, putting the empty box back on the shelf. A young man employed at a neighboring store observed colored man No. 2 run away from the store with the shoes in his hand. He immediately raised the alarm and pursued the perpetrator toward St. Clair street. Mr. Kehm being apprised of the state of affairs left No. 1 in charge of his cobbler, and started after No. 2. This man turned the corner and ran north on St Clair street. He entered Struve's dye-house at the corner of Fourth and St Clair streets, and dropping the shoes on the counter started back toward Fifth street. He encountered officers Fair and Bruner, who took him in charge. It did not take long for the officer to capture No. 1, and send both of them down to the station house together. Here they registered as John Brock and Nero Levy. They are both from Springfield, but claim not to know each other. Officer Fair, whose opinions are generally correct, believes the pair have been working this racket in other places and had the job all set up.
