Saturday last a number of the principal Mechanics of this town assembled in order to fix upon six gentlemen to represent them in the ensuing assembly, which being concluded upon, they removed to a large white Oak Tree, adjoining Christo. Gadsden's pasture, which they consecrated by the name of Liberty Tree; when the celebrated Liberty Song was sung; and at dark the Tree was ornamented with 45 lights, and fireworks played off, and suitable toasts given by the gentleman who was chosen president: At 8 in the evening they returned to town, in regular order, preceded by 45 of the number, each carrying a lighted candle; when they came opposite the house of the Lieutenant Governor, they drew up before the door, and the president gave the toast of the Massachusetts 92, &c. which was followed by three huzzas, from thence they proceeded to Dillon's tavern, where they again drew up, and the president gave another toast, "May the ensuing Members of Assembly be unanimous, and never rescind from the resolutions of the Massachusetts 92;" after three cheers the whole company repaired to a long room in said house, where 45 candles were placed on the table, and 92 glasses were applied in resounding the voices of as many loyal toasts, and at 10 broke up, having spent the day and evening in civil mirth and jollity.
