SONG.

Tune—Come rest in this bosom.

TO M. M.

On! banish, sweet Mary, the tear from that eye,
And check in its progress that half utter'd sigh;
Though one has been faithless, another may prove
That the heart is not always deceitful in love.
In life's troubled ocean, the delicate breast
Is often by tempests and sorrows opprest;
And the haven of peace is alone to be found,
By struggling against the rude breakers around.
Then fortune defy—and forgetful of cares,
Which God, while they melt the fond soul into tears.
Seek this bosom, where free from the turmoils of strife,
Will stem the wild torrent of troubles and life.
M.
