In it, Montcalm expresses great concern that without peace, the country cannot hold out beyond the middle of next summer. He implores them to make peace on any terms, adding that even with great concessions in America, if 30 or 35 soldiers are sent to him in each outgoing ship after peace, he will recover all yielded ground within a few years.
