Full Text

"The statute giving the landlord a first lien is in many instances unjust, cruel and in all instances an evidence of class legislation of the worst species," says the Onawa Sentinel. "In flourishing times, when crops are good and prices high, the enormity of its provisions are not brought to mind, but when all classes of business are forced to watch their interests, prices low and crops slim, the injustice of the law is brought out in bold relief." The Sentinel wants this law repealed and a statute enacted based upon justice to all and special privileges to none.
