HELP ARMENIANS
Forty Dollars Given By
Furlow Grammar
Pupils
The children of Furlow Grammar school have responded splendidly to the call for aid for the starving Armenian children in the Near East.
Mrs. Lillian Sharpe made an appeal to the children of the school in which she set forth the need of the thousands of little children in Armenia who have no food and clothes, and who will die but for the aid rendered by the United States. After her talk, the children promised to raise some money among themselves, and at the end of the week $40 had been donated by them. This was secured only after a two-day canvass of the school.
Mrs. Sharpe told the children that if they would agree to contribute the money, that 17 cents would feed a hungry child for a day. She also asked them to adopt an Armenian orphan to support during this year, but this was found impracticable, since the Furlow Grammar school children are at present contributing $120 a year to the support of a Serbian orphan which the school adopted last year.
The children are not yet through with their plans for further contributions, but are working this week to augment the amount already contributed, and it is hoped that by Friday of this week the donation will have reached $100.
