I.
WHITEFIELD is gone! That Orator divine,
Whose Presence, Voice, and Gesture cou'd command
Our close Attention----and our Thoughts confine,
Whilst his wise Documents we did attend.
II.
With Plainness, and with Energy of Speech,
The sacred Gospel-Truths He wou'd impart
To attending Throngs---and ardently beseech,
That These might be impress'd on ev'ry Heart.
III.
J E S U S, the Object of his constant love,
Was the chief Subject which our WHITEFIELD chose.
Hence to this JESUS, in yon' Realms above,
He's gladly gone---to take his sweet repose.
IV.
No more shall we his Countenance behold
As heretofore---his pleasant Voice no more
Shall captivate the Ears of young and old----
For He's now landed on the Heav'nly Shore.
V.
His Joys are full---while miserable we
Are left behind to mourn this heavy Loss,
Both to ourselves, and all AMERICA.
No WHITEFIELD now with Tears to plead our Cause!
