And on Thursday last, being the Day appointed by his Excellency the Governor for a publick Rejoicing on Occasion of the Reduction of the HAVANNAH: In the Forenoon the Company of Cadets commanded by Col. Jarvis, were mustered, and escorted his Excellency the Governor, accompanied by the Members of the Honourable his Majesty's Council, and the House of Representatives, from the Court House to the publick Lecture, to express their Gratitude to Heaven on this joyful Occasion, where a Sermon well adapted thereto was preach'd by the Rev. Dr. Sewall, from I Chron. xxix. 11. At One o'Clock the Bells of the Town were rung, and continued ringing the Remainder of the Day; the Guns at Castle William, the Batteries in this Town and Charlestown, as also those on board the Ships in the Harbour were discharged: In the Afternoon his Excellency the Governor, with the whole General Court, and a Number Civil and Military Officers of the Town, were escorted by the Company of Cadets to Concert Hall, where his Majesty's and other loyal Healths were drank, and a Concert of Musick performed by the Gentlemen concerned in the Management of it; in the Evening there were Illuminations, Bonfires, and a great Variety of Fireworks played off at the publick Expence, in Token of Joy on this glorious Event. There has also been great Rejoicings on the late Success of the British Arms in most of the neighbouring Towns, particularly at Charlestown, Salem and Marblehead, where were Illuminations, Bonfires, and other Demonstrations of Joy.
