Full Text

New York.—It is now ascertained, that De Witt Clinton is re-elected Governor of the State of New York, by a majority of more than two thousand votes; whilst in the Senate there is said to be chosen a majority of six members, and in the House of Assembly of eighteen or twenty members, opposed to his administration. This is supposed to decide the complexion of the Council or Appointment, with whom resides the immense patronage which centers in the Executive authority of the state of New York. The excitement of the contest has been very great; and it is difficult to say whether the result is on the one hand most lamented, or on the other most rejoiced at.
