Full Text

The National Intelligencer, of the 23d inst. contains the following complimentary notice of the late representative of a neighboring district in Congress. There is more point in its reproach, when we remember that Col. Claiborne fell a victim to the apathy of his constituents and not to the active superiority of his opponent.

With the exception of the ostracism of her days of yore, we don't know anything which is so reproachful than her ejection of that honest and faithful patriot, Narcissus H. Claiborne, from the seat in Congress which he has heretofore filled with so much integrity and honor.

The only offences with which he could be charged that we can think of, was his manly opposition to the incumbent, to get up a war with France, and his side elections. This last, in view of the committee, was a sin beyond forgiveness. Mere party uses.
