Event Details
On the sixth of September, the French privateer sloop from Martinico captured the Charles, Capt. Holland, from Maryland, bound to Barbados, and sent it to Martinico, its 29th vessel in twelve months. The next day, it encountered the Speaker, Capt. Middleton, attempted to flee by crowding sail, cutting anchors, and throwing guns overboard, but was overtaken at night and surrendered when within pistol shot.
