A Letter from Barbados by Captain Burt, who arrived here last Night, dated the 12th of September, contains the following Intelligence. viz. That on the eighth of that Month the Speaker, Captain Middleton, returned from a Cruize to Windward, and carried in with him a French Privateer Sloop, of 14 Carriage and Swivel Guns, and 60 Men, belonging to Martinico: That on the Sixth of the Same Month that Privateer took the Charles, Capt. Holland, from Maryland, to Windward of the Island, bound there, and sent her into Martinico, which made the Twenty-Ninth Vessel taken by her within Twelve Months: That the next Day she fell in with the Speaker, and finding her Mistake, crowded all the Sail she could carry, cut her Anchors from the Bows, and threw all her Carriage Guns overboard, to no Purpose; for Captain Middleton came up with him about Twelve at Night, when Monsieur hauled down all his Sails, and lay to, thinking, as the Speaker was going at a great Rate, and a heavy Squall coming on, she might miss him in the Dark; but the Wind abating, and he finding himself within Pistol Shot of her, called out for Quarters.
