ONE PERCENT TAX FOR VETERANS TO EXPIRE TOMORROW

Tomorrow is the last day that Alaskans will pay the one percent Veterans Sales Tax which was enacted by the 1946 Territorial Legislature to build up a fund for loans and bonuses to Alaska resident veterans.

The law prescribed that collection of the tax would cease at the end of the quarter in which $3,250,000 has been collected. This amount was reached in April and tax collections will cease at midnight tomorrow.

Businessmen have thirty days in which to remit the tax to the Territorial Department of Taxation, according to Norman E. Sommers, Deputy Tax Commissioner.
