Michigan Consolidated Gas Co. Changes Department Heads

New milestones in the careers of three of the Detroit area's leading professional women were announced today by Fred A. Kaiser, vice president and sales manager of Michigan Consolidated Gas Company.

Miss Frieda Barth, director of home service for the utility since 1947, was named executive advisor in the Home Service Division. Miss Peggy Lewis, who is completing 10 years with Michigan Consolidated, was appointed director of home service. Miss Irene Hickey, former director of home service and executive director, is retiring.

All three have filled a variety of roles in their efforts to aid homemakers over the years. They have also been among Detroit's leading business and club women.

Miss Barth graduated from Iowa State College and joined Michigan Consolidated in 1930 as assistant director of home service. She was selected one of Detroit's 250 outstanding women during the city's 250th Birthday Festival. Active in professional and social groups, she is a member of the Women's City Club, Women's Advertising Club, American Home Economics Association and Home Economics in Business.

She has worked closely with the schools, Y.W.C.A., United Foundation, Campfire and Girl Scouts and has judged hundreds of cooking contests. For five years she was featured in a cooking show on television.

Miss Lewis came to Michigan Consolidated in 1950 following her graduation from Michigan State University. She is a member of the board of directors of the Women's City Club and is active in the Detroit Historical Society and the Michigan Home Economics Association. She formerly served on the board of directors of the Michigan State Alumni Association. Miss Lewis was a member of the steering committee of the United Foundation's Women's Organization. She is Civil Defense instructor on emergency mass feeding in the event of a national emergency.

Miss Hickey, one of Detroit's earliest exponents of professional help for homemakers, organized Michigan Consolidated's first home service department. She plans to carry on her work in retirement through serving the many women's groups she has worked with during her active business career.

She joined Michigan Consolidated in 1929 following her graduation from Iowa State College and served as home service director until 1947 when she was appointed executive advisor.

In addition to her home economics activities, Miss Hickey has been active in Catholic charity work which she plans to continue.
