Full Text

Extract of a letter from a merchant in Bermuda to his Friend in London, dated April 5.

"It is lamentable indeed to find the deplorable state our nation is in, the effects of which are severely felt in this place. We have long been hoping and expecting that the next vessel would bring us more favourable accounts: but alas! it is worse & worse, and the prospect now before us is Famine and Death. The Lord (for there is none else can) deliver us from it. There is now little or no provision to be sold on the Island, and no expectation of any. The West-Indies we hear are in the same situation. We thank you for giving us the Heads of the fatal restraining bill."
