THE LEGION DRUM CORPS

The drum and bugle corps of Frank J. Goldcamp Post, American Legion, has been the most potent organization in advertising Ironton since the days of the famous Tank football team, and yet not a single member of this musical unit have ever received a dime for their services. It is true that the Legion post has more than $1200.00 invested in uniforms, and musical instruments, and for half a dozen years, the Legion has asked little from the community. The time has come, when, if the community wants this outfit to keep Ironton on the map as it has in the past, that a little public response is necessary for its continuance.

Veterans who compose this musical unit, must devote hours of their time each month for practice. They have done so in the spirit of community service for years. In addition to taking part in Legion parades in Huntington, Ashland, Portsmouth, Washington C. H., and other Ohio cities, they have represented Ironton in parades twice at Cincinnati, and once at Columbus.

Their outstanding uniforms have made them the "hit" of the parade. The greatest expense connected with the drum corps, is the dry cleaning of their uniforms following each public appearance, as they must be spotless.

Within the next few months, the Legion is going to call upon the public for support of an entertainment or concert of some sort, and that response will determine whether the people watching parades next year will say "Here comes Ironton" or whether they will inquire "Where is Ironton?" The drum corps are not asking for contributions or donations. They want public endorsement, as their services are free, but to increase their organization means expense of additional uniforms, drums and bugles.
