Accompanied by Miss Odette Wilson, queen of the 1924 Harvest Festival, its victorious band and patrol in the 1923 convention at Portland, Ore., 200 Milwaukee Dokeys will leave on a special train Saturday over the Milwaukee road for Providence, R. I., to attend the biennial session of the Imperial Palace next week.
The band of 60 pieces and the patrol, with a membership of 25, again is out to capture first honors, but will face far stronger competition than during the last two conventions as more teams have been entered by the middle west and eastern Dokey Temples.
Frank Leipzig, a member of the patrol for nine years, is the new captain, while Hugo Bach is director of the band and will accompany the organization on its trip.
The Dokey special, in charge of Royal Vizier Oscar Hagen and Edward Immler, chairman of transportation, will make stops at Chicago, Pittsburgh and Atlantic City on the way to Providence, with a special trip to Boston, where the band will give a concert on Boston Common at the invitation of the mayor. On the return trip stops will be made in New York, Philadelphia and Washington.
Milwaukee may be chosen as the 1927 convention city, although Fort Worth, Tex., is putting up a hard fight to entertain the Dokeys that year. If the convention is held in Milwaukee, it will be the biggest gathering of Dokeys in the history of the organization as the majority of the big temples are located in the middle west.
