Hague, May 26
"The king of Spain has abdicated his kingdom, with all its dependencies, in favour of Buonaparte. The wretched Charles goes to Champagne, with his Queen and family, there to live as a private individual. The Prince of Asturias retires in the same manner to Valencia. The Prince of Peace accompanies the king, as his friend. There is but little doubt that the Grand Duke of Berg is now king of Spain. He has already issued a proclamation ordering a forced loan, in order to arm and equip all the vessels of Spain against Britain."
The authenticity of this intelligence rests entirely upon the above letter, for no papers of so late a date have arrived. The facts stated, however, are so probable, that there seems little reason to doubt them. They are the natural result of the late proceedings of Buonaparte, and of the extreme imbecility of the royal family of Spain.
