How About the Treason in the New York Custom House?
There has been a long and ominous silence as to the treasonable connivance of officers in the New York Custom House with the shipment of supplies to the rebels. Was there nothing in the disclosures made some weeks since, or is the treason to be covered up, and the traitors to go unpunished, on account of their "unconditional loyalty"?
Thurlow Weed writes to the Albany Evening Journal: "Until the administration thoroughly sifts and probes the iniquities of the New York Custom House, the people will be justified in inquiring whether their treasure and blood shall continue to flow, by millions and in rivers, while its own officials are playing into the hands of the enemy."
That is just what the people keep asking, but they get no answer.
