Yesterday, about two o'Clock, the Right Honourable James Townshend, Esquire, Lord Mayor elect, was sworn in as Lord Mayor at Guildhall for the Year ensuing.

After that Ceremony, and the Sword Bearer, Mace Bearer, &c. had Surrendered the Same to the present Mayor, who delivered them to the Lord Mayor elect, he returned them to the respective Gentlemen.

The old Lord Mayor then came forward, and addressed himself to the Livery to the following Effect: "That on the Expiration of his high and important Office, he was happy in the conscious Reflection that he had employed his whole Time with the greatest Integrity in promoting the Interest of his Fellow Citizens, and studying the Happiness of this great Metropolis; and his Lordship concluded by observing how worthy a Gentleman was to succeed him."
