For the Gazette:

To Miss

I now leave you dear girl, now so charming
and gay,
O'er the hills of the west I must distantly stray,
Will a tear moist your cheek, when I'm
gone, far away?

O say my sweet girl with a bonny blue eye!
When gone, will you ever recall me to mind?
Or will absence with thee loose affection's
warm tie?

O no! for you swore I'll but me you've re-
Did you not my sweet girl with a bonny
blue eye
When in fancy's domain, I shall sometimes
discern,
And listen again to that love breathing sigh
Which assur'd me your heart beat a tender
reply,
To my love for the girl with a bonny blue eye.

A sigh from the mountains I'll send you my love!
Will your soul echo sweetly a wishful reply?
For 'tis love that can only such sympathy move:
In the bosom of her with a bonny blue eye.

Then I leave you, dear girl, now so glee-
some and gay,
O'er mountains and rivers afar I must hie:
All I ask is a thought when you feel me away,
So adieu my sweet girl with a bonny blue eye.
