INDIANAPOLIS, August 17.-The Independent State Convention, to fill vacancies on the State ticket, met at the State House grounds to-day. Three or four hundred delegates were present. After the selection of officers and the appointment of committees, resolutions were reported endorsing the platform of the Independent State and National Conventions, denouncing the act of 1873, by which the silver dollar was dropped from our list of legal tender, and demanding its return; that its full coinage should be encouraged to enable the government to pay its coin obligations in silver, as it has a right to do under the original contract; that all values should be taxed equally, including government bonds and greenbacks; that the Independents have no faith in the professions of reform, which come on the one side from corporation thieves and railroad wreckers, representing the old Tammany regime of New York, and on the other hand from an organization which, in national convention, has endorsed the entire administration of President Grant, not even excepting its stealings, and that no confidence can be placed in the old political parties, which have been steeped in corruption and complicated with dishonesty. After adopting the resolutions the Convention proceeded to vote upon the nominations presented for vacancies on the State ticket, which was followed by addresses from Hon Samuel F. Cary and other gentlemen of the greenback persuasion.
